At the time of radio’s introduction, the idea of transmitting entertainment and news through the airwaves was revolutionary. New institutions and new business models were developed to take advantage of this technological breakthrough, including the idea of using advertising to support the market, which has largely continued to this day.

Radio grew into a major industry, with a profound influence on the culture and social mores. Although it was later to be eclipsed by television, it continues to this day to be one of the major forms of entertainment, with the average American listening to approximately three hours of radio per day.

Radio stations generate positive values to listeners, as evidenced by the willingness of listeners to spend several hours each day listening to radio even though they have to put up with advertising. Advertisers pay for the right to place their advertisements in radio programming, generating the revenues upon which private radio stations depend for their existence.

We have already discussed the two possible impacts that radio might have substitution and exposure. It is likely that both effects are at work at any one time. The relative strength of each, however, determines the overall impact of radio on record sales.

The prevailing view is that radio play enhances the market for prerecorded music. Much of this view can be traced to the fact that firms in the recording industry carefully cultivate their relationship with radio broadcasters to make sure that radio stations play their recordings. Often, this cultivation crosses over into what is known as “payola”, a pejorative term indicating that record companies are paying radio stations, station programmers, or disc-jockeys to pay particular recordings.

As we shall see, the recording industry underwent a devastating decline shortly after the advent of radio. Even some commentators who assign the cause of the recording industry’s decline to radio’s emergence believe that the major impact of radio on record sales changed from substitution to exposure, and that radio now enhances the sales of recordings. For example, according to the BBC website, The record industry had spent the first twenty years of the century convincing the public that they needed a source of music in the home but they didn’t foresee the possibility that it may be free. Unfortunately, The Radio Corporation of America (RCA) had by the early 1920s started mass-producing commercial radios which, while acoustically inferior, offered a far wider range of news, drama and music. The record companies retaliated by drawing up contracts for their major artists, forbidding them to work for this rival medium. This move to limit radio’s output was doomed to failure as new vacuum tube amplification rapidly improved reception and sound quality. Record sales plummeted.

In recording we should compare musical instruments to get what is best, but in industry we need more actions than just comparing.

Teenagers listen to a lot of music, mostly whilst doing something else (like traveling or using a computer). This makes it hard to get an idea of the proportion of their time that is spent listening to music.

They are very reluctant to pay for it (most never having bought a CD) and a large majority (8/10) downloading it illegally from file sharing sites. Legal ways to get free music that teenagers use are to listen to the radio, watch music TV channels (not very popular, as these usually play music at certain times, which is not always when teenagers are watching) and use music streaming websites (as I mentioned previously).

Almost all teenagers like to have a ‘hard copy’ of the song (a file of the song that they can keep on their computer and use at will) so that they can transfer it to portable music players and share it with friends.

How teenagers play their music while on the go varies, and usually dependent on wealth –with teenagers from higher income families using iPods and those from lower income families using mobile phones. Some teenagers use both to listen to music, and there are always exceptions to the rule. A number of people use the music service iTunes (usually in conjunction with iPods) to acquire their music (legally) but again this is unpopular with many teenagers because of the ‘high price’ (79p per song). Some teenagers use a combination of sources to obtain music, because sometimes the sound quality is better on streaming sites but they cannot use these sites whilst offline, so they would download a song then listen to it on music streaming sites (separate from the file).

Sometimes, watching live music is the best experiences for teenagers. They are willing to get US AIRWAYS CENTER TICKETS, Comfort Dental Amphitheatre TICKETS, COORS FIELD TICKETS to experience live musics and sports.

Radio has always been a source of entertainment, a source of information and a source which keeps a person connected with his locality, country and world. Radio is one of the oldest Communication medium. It was invented before Television come into play and hence it was widely used by people across the world and its significance can never be neglected.

Since Internet was devised, Internet became very popular because of its wide range of uses and facilities available on it like email, chatting, audio and video talks, watching movies and videos, playing songs etc. Internet has captured the world wide activities in a single Computer then how radio can escape from it. Now live radio services are also available on Internet. There are many websites which provides thousands of free live radio stations on which we can select programmes according to our choice. We can select programmes of any language, country or category. Live internet radio has many advantages over a simple radio.

1.It offers thousands of channels which is not possible on a simple satellite radio.
2.A user can select a programme according to languages, locations and categories by a simple click of mouse or a button on key pad which is not possible on simple radio.
3.Internet provides a hassle free live radio broadcast which is not always possible on a simple radio. A simple radio receives signals from satellites which are often obstructed by large buildings or monuments. So quality of sound gets affected. It need to be equipped with other accessories to get rid of these problems.
4.We can also download these programmes to listen it later on Internet which is not possible on a simple radio.
Many websites provide free live radio facility where as on some websites, we have to become a member of it by registering on it. Some websites also charge registration fees. Now we can make more more fun out of Internet by availing all the entertainment of radio on line

Talk radio interviews aren’t what they used to be.

In the “golden days,” the hosts of major-market talk radio shows used to bring authors into the studio for long chats. An author could just knock off a couple of those interviews and sales would instantly hit “turbo.”

Sadly, those days are gone. Unless an author is a truly big name nowadays, the chances of hitting pay-dirt with just a couple of big radio interviews are history.

The reasons are two-fold.

First, there just aren’t as many talk shows with a format for guests as there used to be. Secondly, the amount of “per-guest interview time” has shrunk. Blame the research: Researchers found that listeners are more likely to stay tuned if there are three 10-minute guests on a show instead of just one 30 minute guest.

When it comes to talk radio public relations, quantity still rules. Think about it. There are thousands of radio stations out there, many just 1,000 watts or so and without a big-name host. But that certainly doesn’t mean you should thumb your nose at them.

Look at it this way. If a 1000-watt radio station had, say, only 100 listeners, you’d probably think it wasn’t worth the trouble, right? But what if you could go to an auditorium and talk to 100 people about your book, would you go? Of course you would.

See the contradiction here?

So decide not to pass up an interview, whether big or small. You’ll be building lots of selling momentum, and something else, too.

Practice in the “Minors” Before You Step Up to the “Majors.”

A rookie baseball player doesn’t throw his first pitch against the New York Yankees, does he? Of course not, and the same applies to radio.

It takes approximately 10 to 12 radio interviews before most authors are comfortable behind the microphone. So it’s far better to make your first inevitable mistakes on a smaller stage than a bigger one, and that’s where the little stations come in. Small talk radio stations let you practice becoming a great guest.

Having a large number of interviews under your belt will definitely give you experience. You’ll be able to crystallize your thoughts on your book better, get your presentation down to a few succinct words: sound like a pro instead of a floundering amateur.

Typical errors for first time guests include not giving out their website address or the title of their book, or not mentioning it frequently enough. It’s also a mistake to mention these too often and upset the host, who will let you know that the show is not an infomercial.

Technical authors have a tendency to slide into techno-babble, and even good guests inevitably walk out of their first few interviews knowing they could have done better. When first-time authors make these mistake (and they will), it is best if huge audiences don’t hear their error.

Sure, there can be pitfalls with smaller stations. Be prepared to run into some hosts who are unprofessional, and make sure you confirm an interview at least twice before you’re scheduled to be on the air.

And, nothing can save you from the 500 watt or 1,000 watt radio station in Peoria that’s hosted by a kid right out of broadcast school, so be ready for what an unprofessional host will throw at you. Many hosts won’t be as prepared as their big-league counterparts (translated: they probably won’t read your book), so you may have to walk them through the major points of your topic.

Prepare for these interviews as though you have just met someone on the street for the first time and you’re telling them about your book. If the hosts aren’t as prepared as they should be, you still need to be on your toes. Very bright people listen to some very small radio stations; so don’t ever talk down to your audience.

The bottom-line here is that small-station interviews not only can generate sales, they can prepare you for the big time.

If you are looking for a compact SUV that is a luxury vehicle, you likely discovered the BMW X3. BMW actually doesn’t refer to them as an SUV, but rather as SAV, or sport activity vehicle. The latest versions of the X3 come equipped with heated seats, adaptive headlamps, panoramic sunroof, and an 3.0si engine with 260 horsepower. For improved safety, the BMW X3 also comes equipped with xDrive, which allows the vehicle to compensate before the driver might be aware of an unstable situation, thus improving your safety in potentially dangerous driving conditions. When you are looking at your options for satellite radio for BMW X3, BMW XM is a great choice. BMW X3 satellite radio offers you all of your favorite radio stations with perfect reception no matter where you might be traveling in your BMW.

If you enjoy rock, then you will like the fact that XM’s two powerful satellites are nicknamed “Rock” and “Roll.” They are orbiting Earth in a similar manner as other communications satellites.

XM Satellite Radio gives you so many options. With 100 channels of music, talk radio, news and entertainment, you are sure to find something great to listen to on your satellite radio for bmw, even if you are no where close to a radio station transmitter. Your locale, no matter where that might be, is no obstacle to XM’s two Hughes HS 702 satellites. Those two powerhouses send any XM channel you wish right to your car’s radio. The XM lineup of outstanding radio begins at a ground station located near Washington, D.C., which sends their signal to the satellites, which then beam the signals down to Earth, and those signals are picked up by radio receivers designed to play the digital data they receive from the satellites.

If you are traveling in an urban area where there are a lot of tall buildings, you might have experienced intermittent gaps in your traditional radio reception. All of that is a thing of the past with XM Satellite Radio, because there are also transmitters placed strategically on the ground so you will always have great reception in your BMW X3 SAV.

XM Satellite Radio is a subscription service. For a small monthly fee you receive 100 channels of all your favorite programming that plays crystal clear no matter where you might be driving in your BMW X3. No traditional terrestrial radio can offer you the same listening excellence as can satellite radio.

Another aspect that many drivers favor when it comes to listening to satellite radio is the lack of commercials that play on the channels. On terrestrial radio, commercials can really break up the flow of the music or other programming. That annoyance is taken away with XM, when you can choose your favorite channels that feature your favorite artists or speakers.
